Diamond Encrusted Everything!

It seems that every time a new, cool item is released into the market, someone goes out of their way to smother it with diamonds. The allure is obvious - EVERYTHING looks better covered in diamonds!

Here are just a few neat items that have been diamond encrusted lately:

$40,000 Diamond Covered iPod Shuffle

This item was made by Heyerdahl Jewelers in Norway, and they call the white and pink gold, diamond covered iPod shuffle - the "iDiamond". Currently the world's most expensive iPod, the iDiamond is set with a total of 430 diamonds: 312 diamonds cover the player itself, and an additional 118 diamonds adorn the white earphones. It is valued at US$41,000, and will be donated to a charity cause auction at a European charity dinner event in March 2008.

Diamond Covered Mercedes:

This car was unveiled at an auto show in Dubai, most probably to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary Mercedes Benz SL550. This car is shrouded in mystery and hearsay, as there are still no confirmed reports on whether the diamonds are genuine or fake.

Damien Hirst's 50M GBP Diamond Encrusted Skull:

This item, designed by artist Damien Hirst, is a life-size cast of a human skull in platinum, its surface covered by 8,601 flawless pave diamonds, weighing a total of 1,106.18 carats. The large pear shape diamond in the center of the "forehead" is a 55-carat stone worth 4 million GBP and is actually a light pink color.
